An Introduction To CNC Machining

 The automation of many machining operations has been made possible by CNC machining. By definition, CNC machining is the controlled automation of machining procedures through the use of a computer numerical control (CNC) machine. A CNC machine precisely controls a piece of material at high speeds to meet precise specifications by following a pre-programmed predetermined command and with no operator directly manipulating the operation. The CNC machines are usually attached to machines that work in other fields such as aerospace or automobiles.

There are many types of CNC machining, each used for different applications. For instance, CNC milling is used in the production of metal and other solid materials that need to be machined to precise tolerance levels. Another type of CNC machining is ultrasonic welding which uses ultrasonic waves for welding purposes. Yet another variety is CNC gas jet machining, which uses jet of water and compressed air as opposed to solid fuel which is used in traditional CNC machines. In addition, CNC machines are also used in a wide variety of other operations which include sanding, drilling, turning, rebating, assembling, etc., where different CNC machines are engineered to handle different types of tasks. All these are done with great efficiency since the CNC machines have the capability to perform hundreds of tasks in parallel and this leads to cost reductions in various areas.

Apart from being able to perform these jobs faster than humans, CNC machines also produce parts that are stronger, more durable, and last longer than those that are made manually. This is because the CNC machining process eliminates the requirement for precise tools such as hand saws, lathes, etc., thereby leading to better machining results, greater flexibility, and more efficient work pieces. The efficiency of CNC machines has resulted in huge cost savings in material and labor thus ensuring profitability for companies involved in manufacturing parts and components.
